Manufacturing Process (Hot-Dip Galvanizing)
The standard hot-dip galvanizing process consists of three key stages:
Surface Preparation:
Degreasing/Caustic Cleaning: Removes dirt, grease, and organic contaminants.
Pickling: Immerses the pipe in a diluted hydrochloric or sulfuric acid solution to remove mill scale and rust.
Fluxing: Applies a protective zinc ammonium chloride layer to prevent oxidation before dipping and ensure proper reactivity with the molten zinc.
Galvanizing: The prepared pipe is immersed in a kettle of molten zinc at around 450°C (840°F). A series of zinc-iron alloy layers are formed.
Cooling: The pipe is withdrawn and cooled, typically in a quench tank, to solidify the zinc coating.
