Steel plate has high strength and rigidity, capable of withstanding large pressures and weights. In addition, it also has excellent toughness and ductility, effectively absorbing energy during impacts to protect the safety of structures and personnel.

Outstanding mechanical properties

Steel plate has good machinability and plasticity, allowing it to be processed into various complex shapes and structures through welding, cutting, drilling, and other processes. Furthermore, it has high wear resistance and corrosion resistance, enabling long-term use in harsh environments.

Diverse types and specifications

Steel plate can be made into different types and specifications of plates according to various needs and uses. For example, carbon steel plates, stainless steel plates, alloy steel plates, etc., each type of plate has its unique properties and uses. Additionally, the thickness and size of the steel plates can also be customized as needed to meet different engineering requirements.

Environmentally friendly and sustainable

Steel plate can be recycled, demonstrating good recyclability. Its widespread use in construction and manufacturing helps reduce resource waste and environmental pollution.

Other advantages

In addition, steel plate also has good thermal conductivity and thermal stability, making it suitable for the manufacture of various heat exchangers and radiators. It can also be used as electrode material in the electrical industry, exhibiting good conductivity.

Application of Steel Plate

Construction
Steel plates are often used to create structural elements like beams and columns, as well as floor and roof decking. They are also commonly used as cladding (metal siding) to protect the exterior of buildings from weather damage.

Manufacturing
Another common application for steel plates is in the manufacturing industry. For example, they can be roll-formed into rain gutters, metal ductwork, and garage doors. They can also be stamped or pressed into car panels and other components. In addition, they can be used to create home appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines.

Shipbuilding industry
In the shipbuilding industry, steel plates play a vital role and are mainly used in the manufacture of ship hull structures. Steel plates have the characteristics of high strength, impact resistance and corrosion resistance, and can meet the needs of ships in various harsh environments.

Machinery manufacturing industry
In the machinery manufacturing industry, steel plates are also widely used in the manufacture of various mechanical equipment and devices. Steel plates can be processed into various shapes through pressure to meet the appearance design requirements of mechanical equipment.

Packaging industry
Steel plates are often used to create food and beverage cans. Also, they can be formed into drums and other containers used to store various liquids. For example, steel drums are commonly used to store oil, gasoline, and other chemicals.

Types of Steel Plate
ASTM A36 Carbon Steel Plate
ASTM A36 Carbon Steel Plate

ASTM A36 Black Steel Plate

Carbon Steel Plates
Carbon steel is one of the most widely used types of steel metal plates, known for its strength, versatility, and cost-effectiveness. These plates are made by combining iron and carbon, and the percentage of carbon in the steel can influence its strength, hardness, and ductility.

Stainless Steel Plates
Stainless steel is known for its excellent resistance to corrosion, making it a popular choice for industries where exposure to moisture, chemicals, and extreme temperatures is common. Stainless steel plates are made by alloying steel with chromium, which gives them their corrosion-resistant properties.

Alloy Steel Plates
Alloy steel plates are made by adding other elements, such as manganese, nickel, or molybdenum, to the steel to enhance specific properties. These plates are designed for applications requiring superior strength, toughness, and resistance to wear and fatigue.

Mild Steel Plates
Mild steel, also known as low-carbon steel, is one of the most common types of steel used in manufacturing and construction. It has a low carbon content, making it easy to weld, cut, and shape. Mild steel plates are relatively inexpensive compared to other types of steel plates, making them an attractive option for projects with budget constraints.

Structural Steel Plates
Structural steel plates are used in the construction of large, load-bearing structures such as bridges, buildings, and ships. These plates are designed to provide exceptional strength and support to structures that experience high levels of stress and strain.

Production Process of Steel Plates

Raw Material Preparation
The production of steel plate begins with the preparation of raw materials, primarily iron ore, coke, and limestone. Iron ore is mined and processed to extract iron, typically through crushing, grinding, and beneficiation to enhance its quality. Coke, produced by heating coal in the absence of air, acts as a reducing agent in the blast furnace, while limestone serves as a flux to remove impurities from the molten iron.

Steelmaking
Once the raw materials are prepared, the steelmaking process begins. In a blast furnace, iron ore, coke, and limestone are heated to high temperatures to produce molten iron. This molten iron is then transferred to a Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) or an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). In the BOF, oxygen is blown through the molten iron to lower its carbon content and produce steel. In the EAF, scrap steel or direct reduced iron (DRI) is melted using electrical energy to produce steel.

Secondary Refining
The molten steel undergoes further refinement in a process called ladle metallurgy. Here, adjustments are made to the steel's composition and temperature through methods such as adding alloying elements and degassing. Following this, the steel is subjected to continuous casting, where it is poured into molds and solidified into semi-finished products like billets, blooms, or slabs.

Hot Rolling
The solidified slabs are then reheated in a reheating furnace to make them pliable. These slabs pass through a series of rollers in a hot rolling mill, where they are rolled out to the desired thickness and shape, creating either plates or coils. This stage also imparts the steel with its final mechanical properties.

Cold Rolling (if required)
For specific applications requiring thinner and more precisely dimensioned steel, the hot-rolled steel is further processed in a cold rolling mill. Cold rolling involves reducing the thickness of the steel at room temperature, which enhances surface finish and dimensional accuracy.

Heat Treatment (if required)
Depending on the steel grade and its intended use, heat treatment processes such as annealing or tempering may be applied. Annealing relieves internal stresses and improves ductility, while tempering adjusts the hardness and strength of the steel.

Finishing
After the steel is rolled or treated, it undergoes several finishing processes. Pickling cleans the steel surface of oxides and scale using acid solutions. Coating may be applied to protect the steel from corrosion, such as galvanizing with zinc. Additional surface treatments like skin passing or polishing can be performed to achieve specific surface properties.

Inspection and Testing
Quality control is a critical phase in the production process. Steel plates are subjected to rigorous testing and inspection. Mechanical properties, chemical composition, and surface quality are thoroughly examined to ensure that the steel meets the required standards and specifications.
