CS hot rolled steel sheets are made by heating carbon steel to a temperature above its recrystallization point, which is usually 1,700° F or higher. The steel is then flattened to the desired size and thickness using high-speed rollers and shaped into the desired form, such as a sheet, plate, or bar. The hot rolling process makes steel easier to form and work with than unprocessed steel. Hot rolled steel is also typically stronger than other hot-rolled steels because it contains 0.42%–0.50% carbon. However, hot rolled steel is weaker than cold rolled steel because the heat applied weakens the metal before it cools down. Hot rolled steel tubes are best suited for applications that do not require precise shapes or tight tolerances.
