BI Pipe S-20

Bl pipes S-20 are ordinary iron pipes without any surface treatment. BI pipes are called black iron pipes before galvanizing, and they are called white iron pipes after galvanizing, also known as water and gas pipes. Most homes built before the 1960s used black iron pipes for lines such as water and gas. It is a form of steel pipe but is made from a more malleable product. Bl pipe, it is actually a form of steel pipe, but its composition is slightly different and the material makes it more malleable. However, water does corrode this type of pipe quite easily compared to steel. BI pipes are normally cast by centrifugally spinning molten iron in high-quality steel molds fittings are cast in static molds. The iron contains small quantities of magnesium to transform the lamellar form of carbon into a spheroidal form, thereby increasing tensile strength and ductility.

Bl pipes S-20 are available in sizes up to DN 2000 with socket and spigot ends suitable for forming push fit type joints, plain ends suitable for jointing with flexible couplings, or with flanged ends formed by welding on BI flanges. Pipes larger than DN 2000 are manufactured but with joints other than the push fit type. Standard lengths vary depending on the diameter of the pipe, the type of ends required and where the pipe is manufactured. In the UK the standardized length (overall length minus the depth of the socket) for spigot and socket ended pipe is typically 5.5 m for nominal sizes up to DN 800 and 8.15 m for DN 900 and larger; further information on other standardized lengths is provided.
