Square Galvanized Steel Pipe for various structural

Galvanized steel pipes are metal pipes coated with a layer of zinc to prevent corrosion. They are widely used in construction, municipal engineering, and industrial applications. Based on the manufacturing process, they are primarily categorized into hot-dip galvanized pipes and electro-galvanized pipes (cold-galvanized). Among these, hot-dip galvanized pipes offer significantly superior corrosion resistance and longer service life compared to electro-galvanized pipes.

Key Feaures

Corrosion Resistance

The zinc coating isolates the steel substrate from corrosive environments. Even if locally damaged, the zinc layer provides continued protection through cathodic action.

Long Service Life

Can last 30-50 years under standard conditions, far exceeding uncoated black steel pipes.

High Strength

Retains the mechanical properties of steel, making it suitable for load-bearing structures and pressure transportation.

Cost-Effectiveness

Although initial costs are higher, the minimal maintenance requirements and extended service life result in lower overall lifecycle costs.

Manufacturing Processes

Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Process: Alkaline degreasing → acid pickling → fluxing → immersion in molten zinc (450°C) → cooling and solidification.

Characteristics: Thick zinc coating (typically 45-200 μm), complete coverage, and strong adhesion.

Electro-Galvanizing

Process: Zinc ions in an electrolyte are deposited onto the pipe surface via an electric current.

Characteristics: Thin zinc coating (5-25 μm), smooth surface but prone to damage, with no protection at welded seams.

Avoid Welding: High temperatures damage the zinc layer. Repairs require zinc-rich paint.

Use in Highly Corrosive Environments: Not recommended for acidic/alkaline or coastal areas. Consider stainless steel for such conditions.

Prevent "White Rust" During Storage: Ensure dry and ventilated storage conditions to avoid moisture-induced zinc corrosion.

Help FAQ
Common Problem
  • What is a galvanized steel pipe?

A galvanized steel pipe is a standard steel pipe coated with a protective zinc layer through a galvanizing process. This coating significantly enhances its corrosion resistance, making it suitable for various structural and fluid transport applications.

  • What are the types of galvanized pipes?

Hot-Dip Galvanized Pipes: Immersed in molten zinc, providing a thick, durable coating.

Electro-Galvanized Pipes: Coated using an electrochemical process, resulting in a thinner zinc layer.

  • What are the advantages of galvanized pipes?

Corrosion resistance: Zinc coating protects against rust and environmental damage.

Durability: Suitable for outdoor and high-pressure applications.

Low maintenance: No need for frequent painting or repairs.

Cost-effective: Long service life reduces replacement costs.
